Christmas is coming, and we are excited about all of the plans going on to make this year’s celebration a glory to God and a ministry to our community. The theme is “Simple Blessings”. Christmas is a time to count our blessings and to be grateful, but sometimes we lose track of exactly how Christmas blesses us when we are hurried and overwhelmed with our holiday activities. This year, let’s hold on to the simple blessings of Christmas. Mark your calendars. Not only plan to attend, but plan to be involved.
Christmas Nativity Set Construction & Painting Project – This year, our live nativity will be set in the town square of Bethlehem, so we need to build a town square. We have begun the building of period-looking home/store fronts to line our town square and have put one coat of paint on them. We will now begin the final painting (indoors) and decorating them. We will be getting together on Sunday, November 18th right after church services that day with lunch being served. We need people to help paint (smaller pieces) and help prepare for the final construction to put it all together on Saturday, December 15th beginning at noon at the Neese’s farm. If you have any questions, please see Steve. Please sign up in the church foyer.
Christmas Nativity Sign Up Begins – Our 3rd annual presentation of the Nativity, entitled “A Busy Night!”, is fast approaching and we need to enlist our character actors. The date of the presentation is Sunday, December 16th at 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. We will need approximately 38 individuals of all ages to help us tell the good news of great joy that came on that first Christmas night in that very busy town of Bethlehem. There are speaking and non-speaking parts. We need food vendors, crafts people and census takers to be dressed in period costumes interacting with our guests in one-on-one conversations and a few of the traditional characters who will have lines to memorize. We need both children and adults. Sign-up begins Sunday, November 4th. A first callout meeting for all parts is Sunday, November 18th at 4:30 pm. We will then schedule practices for individual characters. We will have final dress rehearsals for all characters on Saturday, December 15th at 4:00 pm and on Sunday, December 16th at 2:30 pm. Here is a listing for the characters that we will be needing: Mary & Joseph; An Innkeeper; 5 or more shepherds; 6 census takers; 6 Ancient band members (who will be playing instruments to recorded music); A Host/Hostess; 6 Crafts people (to portray ancient crafts); 6 food vendors (to give away refreshments) and 5 or more to help with parking.
A Busy Night: Live Nativity We will present our live nativity production for our congregation and community at the Neese’s farm in rural Thorntown. This will be a retelling of the story of Jesus birth in a not so traditional way. We will need many volunteers from parking attendants to actors with both speaking and non-speaking parts for all ages from children to adults. The nativity will be presented on Sunday, December 16th at 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. Rehearsals will be announced as time nears. Casting callouts will be announced soon Mark your calendars and plan on attending and maybe even being involved. It is a great way to share the Good News of Great Joy to your family, friends and neighbors.

Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box
We are hosting the Operation Shoe Box gift drive to support children across the world through Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. This is a great way to spread God’s love and the story of Jesus to children all over the world. We have boxes available that you may take and pack yourself or we are accepting donations of toys and other items that we will be packing as a church. The deadline for the donations for the Operation Christmas Child Shoe boxes is Sunday November 4th. All donations must be in on that day so that the boxes can be packed.
Again, this year, we will be helping several families in our community and in our congregation this Christmas by providing gifts and gift cards through our Angel Tree project. We will begin placing gift tags on our tree in the foyer in November. All purchased items will need to be returned to the church by Sunday, December 9th. Packages should be unwrapped with the gift tags securely attached and placed under the Angel Tree in the foyer. We are also taking donations of gift wrap, tape and bows so that the families may wrap the presents themselves. Also place these items under the tree.
